The Gold Coast

Hello everyone! After a little Summer break, I'm back and blogging for 2014. I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year. I did the usual - ate my body weight in glazed ham, swam for hours at a time and walked early morning laps of the beach (in Manly and in Queensland).

We spent 8 nights on the Gold Coast for some old-school holiday fun. My sister took my niece and nephew to the theme parks (I also got a chance to hit up Wet'nWild again - best.day.ever). Looking through my photos from the holiday, I discovered a recurring theme...surprise, surprise - places to eat.

Photo 1: The lack of daylight savings in Queensland had Sunny waking up at 4.30am most mornings - so we had the chance to catch some pretty beautiful morning light hitting the beach. We discovered the ESPL. on our second day, and their bottled iced coffee became a daily habit (something had to keep us awake).
Photo 2: Sunny eating dinner at a restaurant that my sister stumbled across - Golden Legends Malaysian Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant with the longest name in the world was certainly nothing special to look at from the outside, but we enjoyed a fresh and authentic Malaysian meal.
Photo 3: My niece Juno enjoying her soft shell crab - Social Eating House + Bar is a definite must-visit if you are in town. Casual and sophisticated, the restaurant at Broadbeach has a very impressive fit-out too.
Photo 4: We also stumbled across a modern pizza restaurant the week it opened in the Isle of Capri called Pomodoro Pizzeria - you get scissors to cut your pizza and it is truly delicious!
Photo 5: A definite highlight was visiting Bazaar at QT. The most impressive buffet I've ever seen (trust me, I've seen a few in my time).  It was totally gourmet, with nice amounts of food on offer - not the Sizzler-style mountains that give buffet's their bad wrap. I was really impressed with the interiors here too.
Photo 6: In between waking from our food comas, we made sure to get lots of beach and swims in. Ah, Summer - don't ever leave.

See you back here soon!
